Levers: Goals

What we feel is linked to what we want.

(For the 1st post in this series, go here)

Our emotions are goal-driven. Meaning, we subconsciously select emotions that can help us reach our goal. This can lead to healthy, or unhealthy emotions, depending on how our brains decide to reach the goal. For example, the desire for attention can lead a child to excel in class or disrupt it. There are a few other internal effects that impact our emotions, but once you can learn to spot the goal behind your current state… adjusting your situation becomes a little easier.

Questions for identifying your goals:

  • What is my true objective in this situation?

  • Are my actions helping me reach my goals?

  • Are my actions constructive or short-sighted?
